Huawei Pura 80 Pro: The Good, The B*D

The Huawei Pura 80 Pro is a premium smartphone within the Huawei Pura 80 series, a collection of high-end devices that prioritize photography. Launched in June 2025, this flagship model embodies Huawei's most recent advancements in camera technology, display quality, and charging capabilities, all while addressing the constraints imposed by U. S. sanctions.

Pura 80 Pro Key Features

Display: 6.8-inch LTPO OLED with a resolution of 1276 x 2848 pixels, featuring a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 3000 nits. The screen is safeguarded by Huawei's Kunlun Glass 2.

Processor: Huawei's proprietary Kirin 9020 chipset (7nm).

Camera System: A triple-camera configuration on the rear, comprising a 50MP primary camera with a sizable 1-inch sensor and a variable aperture (f/1.6 to f/4.0), a 48MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom, and a 40MP ultrawide camera. The front features a 13MP ultrawide lens.

Battery and Charging: Equipped with a 5170mAh battery supporting 100W wired and 80W wireless SuperCharge technology.

Operating System: It operates on EMUI 15 (for international markets) or HarmonyOS 5.1 (in China).

Connectivity: Facilitates 5G (China only) and 4G globally, alongside Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC.

Advantages Of Pura 80 Pro

Outstanding Camera System: The Pura 80 Pro receives significant acclaim for its photographic capabilities. The expansive 1-inch primary sensor, coupled with a variable aperture, captures remarkable images with exceptional dynamic range and low-light performance. The telephoto and ultrawide lenses also yield high-quality, detailed photographs. It is regarded as one of the leading smartphone cameras available.

Superior Display: The 6.8-inch LTPO OLED panel is vivid, sharp, and extraordinarily bright (up to 3000 nits), ensuring excellent visibility even in direct sunlight. The adaptive 120Hz refresh rate guarantees a smooth and seamless user experience.

Swift Charging: With its 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, the device can be fully rejuvenated in a remarkably short time, offering significant convenience for users.

Robust and Elegant Build: The smartphone exhibits a sophisticated design with an aluminum frame, resilient Kunlun Glass 2, and an IP68/IP69 rating for dust and water protection.

Reliable Performance: Although it may not possess the most rapid flagship chipset on the market, the Kirin 9020 delivers a smooth and responsive experience for daily activities, multitasking, and even demanding games.

Disadvantages

Absence of Google Mobile Services (GMS): This is a primary drawback for international users. Due to U. S. sanctions, Huawei devices do not include the Google Play Store or other GMS applications pre-installed. Although there are solutions like GBox to install popular applications, the user experience may not always be seamless.

Constrained 5G Connectivity: The device's 5G capabilities are limited to China. For users outside of China, the smartphone is restricted to 4G networks, which can be a significant drawback given its premium price point.

Chipset Performance: The Kirin 9020, while competent, does not rival the raw performance of flagship chipsets from competitors such as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 series. This may become apparent during intensive tasks or high-performance gaming sessions.

Elevated Cost: The Pura 80 Pro is positioned as a high-end flagship, yet the constraints in software and network connectivity (beyond China) can render it a challenging value proposition when juxtaposed with other flagship devices available in the market that provide comprehensive Google services and 5G connectivity.
