While today’s Meta Connect developer conference predominantly focused on new smart eyewear, the social media corporation also unveiled several metaverse enhancements during Wednesday’s keynote address. Among these, a significant highlight was the introduction of Hyperscape, initially showcased at last year’s event, which enables developers and creators to construct more photorealistic environments in virtual reality.
Hyperscape Capture In Early Access
The organization announced that Hyperscape Capture is now being launched in Early Access, permitting Quest device owners to scan a room within a few minutes, subsequently transforming it into an immersive and lifelike digital environment that resembles a real-world setting.
The scanning procedure itself lasts only a few minutes; however, as Meta points out, the rendering of the room will actually take several hours.
At the initial release, users will not have the ability to invite others into their digital environments, although that capability will be implemented over time, as stated by Meta, via a private link.
Hyperscape environments in USA
Nonetheless, the technology has already been utilized to render various highlighted Hyperscape environments, including Gordon Ramsay’s home kitchen in Los Angeles, Chance the Rapper’s House of Kicks, The Octagon at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and Happy Kelli’s room showcasing her Crocs shoe collection.
Meta first demonstrated Hyperscape last year at its Connect conference, illustrating how it employed Gaussian Splatting, cloud rendering, and streaming to render the digital environments on a Meta Quest 3 headset. Now, it is being made available to users aged 18 and older, who possess either a Quest 3 or Quest 3S.
The rollout will be phased, so not all users may experience it right away.
The Best Isn't Over Yet
Additionally, Meta introduced further metaverse enhancements during today’s events, including a new range of autumn VR games, such as Marvel’s Deadpool VR, ILM’s Star Wars: Beyond Victory, Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, and Reach.
Meta Is Getting Useful Support
Its streaming application, Horizon TV, will incorporate support for Disney+ (including ESPN and Hulu content for subscribers), while a collaboration with Universal Pictures and horror firm Blumhouse will provide films such as “M3GAN” and “The Black Phone” featuring immersive special effects. A 3D clip of “Avatar: Fire and Ash” will also be made available for a limited time.
