Hisense U8Q (65U8QTUK) review: Is It A True Flagship?

Hisense U8Q

Hisense’s mission to prove that it’s now officially a serious player at the premium end of the TV market is really hitting its stride.

How do we know that?

For years, the brand was largely associated with value-driven models, offering impressive features for budget-conscious consumers.

However, a strategic shift is now clearly underway, one that sees Hisense aggressively investing in cutting-edge display technologies and sophisticated processing to challenge established titans like Samsung, LG, and Sony in the high-end arena.

This is about delivering genuinely competitive, class-leading performance that demands attention and respect from discerning videophiles.

Design and Build Features

No sooner have we had our retinas blown off by the dazzling colour, contrast and brightness of the brand’s monumental debut RGB Mini LED TV, the mammoth 116-inch 116UX.

That's a statement piece that redefined our expectations for sheer scale and pixel-level precision – than we find our test benches sagging under the weight of the aggressively eye-catching talents of the 65-inch U8Q.

While the 116UX was a formidable technological flex, establishing a new benchmark for Hisense's engineering prowess, the U8Q represents a crucial step: translating that high-concept innovation into a more consumer-accessible, yet still uncompromisingly premium, package.

Its presence is immediately commanding, promising an experience that goes far beyond its physical dimensions.

Aesthetics Mixed With Durability

As well as being built like a tank, it also comes with a reassuringly robust metal chassis and a design ethos that artfully blends minimalist aesthetics with tangible durability.

This representative of the most premium series from Hisense’s regular (as in, not RGB Mini LED or projector-based) TV range packs all kinds of serious and cutting-edge features and specifications.

Underneath its refined exterior lies a sophisticated engine: a next-generation Mini LED backlight system driving thousands of local dimming zones for unparalleled contrast control, complemented by Quantum Dot technology for a vast and vibrant color palette.

It boasts staggering peak brightness levels, crucial for impactful HDR, alongside a native 120Hz refresh rate, comprehensive HDMI 2.1 support for next-gen gaming with features like VRR and ALLM, and advanced image processing powered by Hisense's Hi-View Engine Pro.

Furthermore, premium audio considerations, often an afterthought in many flatscreen designs, appear to be integrated from the outset, aiming for an immersive sonic experience to match the visual prowess.

Is It A True Flagship?

But do all of its on-paper glories – the impressive numbers, the advanced technologies, the premium build – truly translate into the sort of performance heroics we now expect to see from a flagship-level Mini LED TV?

The bar in this elite category is incredibly high, demanding not just raw brightness and vibrant colours, but also meticulous control over backlight blooming, nuanced shadow detail, pristine motion handling, and accurate colour reproduction right out of the box.

Can the U8Q seamlessly blend these disparate elements into a cohesive, breathtaking viewing experience without compromise, solidifying Hisense’s status not just as a challenger, but as a genuine front-runner in the premium TV landscape?
